ABOUT LIZZY

Hi, I'm Lizzy.

I'm a therapist in Cambridge, Ohio, and I work with adults who are tired of feeling like they should be able to figure this out on their own.

A lot of my clients are actually really good at handling things.

They're the reliable one. The calm one. The person who gets called when something goes wrong. They go to work, take care of people, get things done, and generally look like they're doing just fine.

And maybe they are, in a lot of ways.

But something still isn't working.

Maybe you're anxious all the time. Maybe you can't shut your brain off. Maybe something happened years ago that you understand perfectly well and still react to. Maybe work follows you home more than you'd like to admit.

Or maybe you can't really explain it.

You just know you don't want to keep feeling like this.

That's enough to start with.

I offer in-person therapy in Cambridge and St. Clairsville, Ohio, along with online therapy throughout Ohio and for eligible clients in Indiana and Minnesota.

WHAT IT'S LIKE TO WORK WITH ME

You Can Just Be a Person Here.

I'm pretty laid-back in session.

You don't need to come in knowing what you want to talk about. You don't need to use the right therapy words. And you definitely don't need to worry about whether you're doing therapy correctly. We'll talk like normal people.

I'm not going to sit across from you silently nodding for 50 minutes, but I'm also not going to turn everything you say into a therapeutic intervention.

I'll ask questions. I'll tell you what I'm noticing. I'll probably make a joke when it feels appropriate. And if something I'm suggesting isn't working for you, I want you to tell me.

Some days we'll have a pretty clear direction. Other days you'll mention something that happened at work three days ago and somehow we'll end up talking about a pattern you've had since you were 12.

That's therapy.

I want you to be able to settle in, get comfortable, and talk to me the way you actually talk.

MY APPROACH TO THERAPY

Sometimes We Talk. Sometimes We Do Something Different.

I'm trained in EMDR, Brainspotting, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), CBT-I, and other trauma-focused approaches, and I use them when they make sense. You don't need to research a bunch of therapy acronyms before your first appointment or figure out which one you need. That's part of my job.

Sometimes we need something more structured. Sometimes you've already talked about something a hundred times, and talking about it for the 101st time probably isn't what will help. We might slow down and pay attention to what your body is doing, get curious about a reaction that doesn't make much logical sense, or notice that one part of you wants something while another part wants the complete opposite.

And sometimes we just talk. I'm pretty open to following what comes up rather than forcing every session into a plan we made three weeks ago. There's research behind the approaches I use, but there's also a real person sitting across from me. I think there's room for both.

WHO I WORK WITH

I Tend to Work With People Who Are Used to Handling Things.

I specialize in trauma and PTSD, first responder mental health, and neurodivergence, and I work with a lot of people in high-stress professions- police, fire, EMS, dispatch, healthcare workers, therapists, teachers, caregivers, and other people who spend a lot of their lives being the one who needs to keep it together.

But you absolutely don't need a high-stress job to work with me. I also work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism, insomnia, chronic stress, relationship concerns, pregnancy and postpartum mental health, divorce, and major life changes.

The details can look really different, but I see a lot of people who have gotten very good at pushing through. Eventually, pushing through stops being good enough.

NEURODIVERGENT-AFFIRMING THERAPY

I'm Neurodivergent Too.

That doesn't mean I'll automatically know exactly what your experience is like. It does mean I'm probably not going to be surprised when the strategy that's supposedly great for everyone does absolutely nothing for you.

I'm much more interested in figuring out what works with your actual brain than teaching you how you're supposed to function. For some clients, that means talking about ADHD or autism directly. For others, it comes up when we're talking about executive functioning, sensory needs, relationships, masking, burnout, routines, work, or why something that looks incredibly simple on paper feels nearly impossible to actually do.

We can work with what's actually there. You don't have to make yourself fit the therapy.

TRAINING + CREDENTIALS

Okay, Here Are the Official Things.

I earned my MEd in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Malone University in 2022 and am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in Ohio and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). I've also completed additional training in trauma treatment, first responder mental health, neurodivergence, and insomnia.

Depending on what we're working on, my approach may include EMDR, EMDR Intensives, Brainspotting, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), CBT-I for insomnia, CBT, parts work, and solution-focused or strength-based approaches. I'm also authorized through the Counselor Compact to provide telehealth services to eligible clients in Indiana and Minnesota.

A FEW THINGS YOU SHOULD PROBABLY KNOW

I'm Not Very Formal.

Therapy with me is pretty casual. You can swear, laugh, change your mind halfway through a sentence, or tell me that something I suggested sounds weird. You can show up and say, "I don't know. I've just felt off all week." That's plenty to start with.

I'm also comfortable with the parts of therapy that are harder to put neatly into words. We can pay attention to your gut reaction, what's happening in your body, what keeps coming up, or something you can't quite explain yet. Not everything needs to become a worksheet.

I take the work seriously. I just don't think we have to take ourselves seriously every second we're doing it.

OUTSIDE OF THERAPY

I Do Have a Life Outside This Office.

When I'm not working, I like gardening, hiking, reading, spending time outside, and hanging out with my pets. Nothing particularly groundbreaking, but I do think it's important that you know there's a regular person on the other side of the therapy room.

I don't expect you to show up as a perfectly organized collection of symptoms, coping skills, and treatment goals. You get to show up as yourself.

READY WHEN YOU ARE

We Can Start With What's Not Working.

You don't need to figure yourself out before you make an appointment, know whether you need EMDR or Brainspotting or CPT, or have the perfect explanation for why you're struggling. If all you really know is "something isn't working and I'm tired of feeling like this," we have somewhere to start.

I offer a free 15-minute consultation so you can tell me a little about what you're looking for, ask whatever questions you have, and get a sense of whether working together feels like a good fit.
